Set of 3 “impractical” pieces: a ring, a bracelet, a belt clip
Gestures of tin casting are explored through questioning practicality in jewelry. Jewelry that demands something of the wearer or offers them something instead. It doesn’t just sit on the body; it engages with it. The body becomes a canvas on which metal adorns, whether quietly or boldly. Just as stepping out of your comfort zone can heighten your feelings of comfort or discomfort, jewelry evokes these same emotions.

How do you move through a space when yours is bold, and others are dainty? How does it change the way you stand? Does the weight of this metal weigh you down or lift you up? Does this new place suppress the way you express yourself, or does it amplify it? This project is the result of these questions, exploring varying levels of practicality through the process of DIY tin casting.
This process was explored in a different environment during my exchange semester at Lund University. Exploring a new process in a new place plays into the concept of the pieces. Some make you uncomfortable, weighing on you, forcing the body to move in a way it isn’t used to, but others reveal beautiful markings and understandings one wouldn’t get without going through the process.
